The NGSS insists that we engage students in the business of doing science over learning content. The Phenomena based 3D structure can be incredibly useful in an online environment where traditional lab work is more difficult. This session will look at how to find and then begin lessons with investigative phenomena so we elevate and explicitly teach and assess the science and engineering practices (SEPs) and Crosscutting concepts (CCC.) We will explore rubrics and templates that can help us better develop hands-on, deeper-thinking science activities that equip students to tackle real-world questions. Participants will leave with a better understanding of NGSS 3D curriculum, ideas on how to implement the NGSS in online learning, and a draft of a 3D remote learning activity that incorporates the SEPs, DCIs, and CCCs.
