Resilience is the corollary to stress, trauma and adversity—the innate ability to survive and thrive that every student possesses, and that must be enhanced further through learning and practice.  In this workshop, Dr. Ozawa-de Silva and Ms. Knox will collaborate with participants to investigate the topic of Resilience through the Personal, Social and Systems domains of Social, Emotional and Ethical (SEE) Learning, an innovative framework and curriculum developed at Emory University. An emphasis will be placed on the science of stress, examining when stress is healthy vs. harmful and enhancing resilience through practice and learning. The facilitators will introduce a variety of strategies that involve the body, emotions; and thinking and reason to support the cultivation of resilience in a holistic way. Participants will learn these skills and how they can be taught and explored in a classroom, remote learning or whole-school setting.  The workshop will show how these skills can serve as a foundation for the cultivation of trauma-informed mindfulness and attention; for self-regulation and the navigation of emotions; for the cultivation of constructive relationships; and ultimately for addressing systemic issues such as inequity and social change.
