Fair and equitable assessment is one of the more challenging and essential aspects to integrate into a culture of learning in the classroom. How we determine what students really know and can do requires us to rethink what we value and choose to measure as well as how we best measure it. This session will explore research-based, best-practices around developing an assessment system that leverages both traditional as well as more alternative, authentic assessments. We will explore ways in which student choice bolstered by standards-based feedback and student self-assessment can produce greater engagement in learning. We will explore tools that support formative assessment and feedback both in the face to face and remote classroom. Participants will be challenged to develop a standards-based, authentic and non-traditional performance-based assessment and will be given an assessment and feedback toolkit to help them create more accurate assessments regardless of whether we are remote, hybrid, or all together.
